 3.    Brief introduction to workshop

This fun-filled interactive workshop is designed to address the common issues that undergraduate medical students face: a huge syllabus, not enough time to cover the course, inability to remember what one has read, inability to perform well during viva voce, lack of time for extracurricular interests. Through the use of games, activities and group work, the facilitators will discuss the following topics: Why can’t I remember what I read: Memory, retrieval and retention, How do I learn: Metacognition, Learning in teams, Time management. In addition, internationally accepted techniques for speed reading, making concept maps and note taking will be taught. Students will also be made aware of common problems in writing answers during exams and facing vivas.

 

4.    Who should attend?  

This interactive workshop is designed for undergraduate medical students at all levels who want to organize the way they approach studying and improve their study strategies. A maximum of 30 participants will be allowed to allow optimum interactivity. 

 

5.    Intended Outcomes:

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

-        Apply strategies to improve memory, retrieval and retention

-        Analyze their own strengths and weaknesses as learners and develop personal strategies to improve their study skills

-        Use SQ3R reading technique, Cornell’s note taking technique, good time management strategies
