3.    Brief Introduction to Workshop (100 -150 Words)

The traditional curriculum in medical education faces challenges due to its teacher oriented approach, dependency on lecture based teaching and the knowledge based assessment. This curriculum emphasis more on knowledge based learning and less on skills and affective aspects. Competency based medical education (CBME) focuses on the combination of knowledge, skills and affective aspects. The competency of the learner is the focus of the curriculum. This workshop on CBME will focus on the identification of competencies, selection of teaching-learning methods and designing assessment for competencies. The various approaches being used in CBME and its relevance in present day needs of the learners will be discussed. The challenges in shifting from traditional curriculum to CBME will be highlighted.
